Order intake in North Rhine-Westphalia's mechanical and plant engineering sector in August 2021 was well above the level of the same month last year at 45 percent.

Incoming orders in North Rhine-Westphalia's mechanical and plant engineering sector in August 2021 were significantly higher than in the same month of the previous year at 45 percent. Domestic demand rose by 50 percent, while demand from abroad increased by 42 percent. Orders received from the euro zone climbed by 29 percent and orders from the non-euro zone by 49 percent.

In the three-month period from June to August 2021, orders received rose by 50 percent year-on-year. Domestic orders were up 49 percent. Orders from abroad were up 50 percent, with orders from other European countries up 36 percent and orders from non-European countries up 57 percent.

Given the still low comparative figures for the previous year, incoming orders are continuing at a high level this month. The extent to which this trend will continue remains to be seen. The problems in the supply chains in North Rhine-Westphalia are becoming increasingly acute and are affecting more and more sectors. An improvement in the situation is only seen for certain segments, such as steel, in the coming months. No improvement is forecast for the important electronic components sector.
