bauma China 2020: Light at the end of the tunnel
In 2020, the 10th bauma China was one of the few fairs where people could meet face to face again. It took place in Shanghai from November 23 to 27.
Despite COVID-19 and the resulting travel restrictions, bauma China attracted around 80,000 Chinese trade visitors and 2,867 exhibitors on 300,000 square meters of exhibition space. The secure trade fair process was made possible thanks to a sophisticated security and hygiene concept. But not everything is predictable: More than 130,000 visitors pre-registered. But then there were fewer visitors as COVID-19 cases were again registered in Shanghai a few days before the fair started.
The large areas occupied by international exhibitors such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Bauer, Terex, as well as the pavilions of Germany, Italy and Spain show the continuing international interest and confidence in China's growth and development. The participation of international exhibitors, which is remarkable in this situation, could only be realized this year thanks to the efforts of Chinese employees. The entry and quarantine regulations made it difficult to enter China from abroad.
The German joint stand, which was applied for and supported by the VDMA at the BMWi, was also supervised this time by a member of the VDMA China office. Our colleague Jack Bie and a Chinese interpreter assisted 45 main exhibitors and 15 sub-exhibitors.
Dr. Christine Althauser, Consul General of the Consulate General Shanghai, visited the German Pavilion on November 24th, after having attended the opening ceremony. She held talks with the exhibitors and gained an insight into the achievements of the German manufacturers, also with regard to this special year.
The participation of major Chinese exhibitors such as XCMG, Sany, Zoomlion, Shangdong ,Lingong, Zheijang Dingli at bauma China 2020 was remarkable, they had even increased their exhibition space compared to the last event.
In addition to the on-site event, bauma China offered a range of online solutions, especially for international participants who could not travel to China. On the "bauma China Community" online platform, everyone could virtually participate in bauma China 2020.
The participants could digitally search for exhibitors, exchange company information, get to know products, participate in events and gain new market knowledge. Exhibitors and visitors had the opportunity to communicate via live chats or video conferences. According to statistics, the bauma China Community had over one million online visitors.
The next bauma China will take place from 22 to 25 November 2022 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
