WissProKMU - Future of Work: Designing and Networking

The scientific accompanying project WissProKMU supports and researches 26 inter-organisational projects from the BMBF funding line "Future of Work: SMEs - Innovative and Social".

Author: Sabrina Gellissen, RWTH Aachen

To take advantage of the opportunities and master the challenges of digitization, innovations are needed that relate not only to products but also to processes in which people continue to play a key role. Innovation research shows that the development of novel processes is best achieved when different knowledge and perspectives are brought together. The development of collaborative relationships between the partners is crucial for this. WissProKMU is investigating how and under what conditions such relationships arise in the course of project work, in order to subsequently provide practical measures to promote the formation of such relationships.

Identify challenges and opportunities

In order to determine the location of the individual collaborative projects in terms of content and to create an overview of the focal points and innovation potential in the funding line, an industrial science framework will be established. In addition, ethical, legal and social implications of the innovations aimed at in the joint projects are analysed in workshops held together with the projects. In this way, potential problems and opportunities are prospectively identified and taken into account at an early stage in the design process.

Promoting synergies and joint activities

In order to increase the effectiveness of the joint projects, WissProKMU supports the identification of synergies between projects and the implementation of joint activities to realise the potential. For this purpose, forums are offered which serve both the exchange of information and the company's own external presentation. Finally, WissProKMU systematically summarises the results of the 26 collaborative research projects so that both more differentiated and more far-reaching statements on the future of work in SMEs are possible.
