"Extend short-time benefits now!"
The corona pandemic is also having a strong impact on the labour market. It is therefore necessary to immediately extend the period for which short-time work benefits are paid to 24 months.
Thilo Brodtmann, Executive Director of the VDMA, explains the current situation on the labour market:
"In the public debate it is largely suppressed that many industrial companies were already in recession last year and therefore had to send thousands of employees on short-time work. The reasons for this are international trade conflicts and serious structural changes in the automotive industry. A quick change for the better is now preventing the corona pandemic.
The Federal Minister of Labour must help the affected companies and employees quickly: by immediately extending the period for which short-time work benefits are paid to 24 months.
The Federal Minister of Labour must therefore help the affected companies and employees quickly: by immediately extending the period for which short-time work compensation is paid to 24 months. This will give companies planning security and protect employees from the threat of unemployment. Minister Heil has announced that he will fight for every job. We'll take him at his word."
