The mechanical and plant engineering industry is fighting against the consequences of the global corona pandemic, but also against protectionism in international trade, which continues to be a burden - and consequently expects production to fall by 17 percent in 2020.

The corona pandemic reached the mechanical engineering industry at the end of the first quarter: in March 2020, order intake fell short of the previous year's level by 9 percent in real terms. Domestic orders fell by 2 percent. The decline in foreign orders was more pronounced at 12 percent.
