The VDMA Shanghai Human Resources Seminar in 2016 ”HR – Best Practices for Employee Retention in China”, took place on the 14th June 2016.
Hsiao J. Chiu, Managing Partner of JP International Search Consultants Co., Ltd., shared his knowledge on the topic “Employee retention from a Chinese employees’ perspective – What SMEs (can) do to retain their talents in China”. Mr. Chiu talked about the trends and challenges of the Chinese labor market in 2016, expectations of Chinese employees, employee retention tools especially for SMEs and gave some practical examples gathered through his work.
Vivian Feng, HR Director of LMT China Co., Ltd., shared her practical experience with the “LMT Group Academy China” which she started to establish in 2014. Since then, LMT China has also built up good relationship to technical colleges in China and to local governments. The “LMT Group Academy China” is a successful standardized tool to train their existing employees and motivate them to learn and, therefore, binding them to their company. It also offers a good branding for the company especially towards their customers.
Participants of the seminar were highly active in the discussion round where a lot of questions were raised. Some main topics were e.g. how to bind employees after having developed them or how to deal with the different perception of working title in China compared to Germany.
All in all, HR remains a highly important topic for companies in China with significant practical differences compared to Western countries.
