VDMA Textile Machinery Association

Mayer and Cie.

About 130 of the most important manufacturers of textile machinery and accessories from all sectors of the trade are affiliated within the VDMA Textile Machinery Association.

Portrait of the Industry Sector

The largest parts of the companies are medium-sized firms and stand for approximately 90 percent of the entire sector volume. In 2018, the branch produced textile machinery worth more than 3.5 billion euros.

The association's main activities are economic and technical representation of the branch's interests, exchange of experiences as well as services such as statistics, observation of significant markets and reporting on the situation in the textile industries throughout the world, active support regarding political decisions relating to exhibitions, regular circular letters containing any information important to the member companies, and public relations.

Since the textile machinery sector is an export driven branch, sales support is a key topic. The textile machinery association is very active in organizing symposia / conferences in major textile markets. On the occasion of these conferences German companies present in lectures their latest technologies to high-ranking technical experts and decision makers from the respective textile industry. The lectures are completed with B2B meetings and panel discussions on core topics (e.g. sustainability or life-cycle-costs).
Great importance is attached to the manufacturer sourcing service. In the technical field, emphases are – amongst others – placed on information regarding statutory provisions for machine safety, standardization, and joint research.

Association Activities in China

China Management Meeting: With the Management Meetings, the VDMA offers its members a platform for the targeted exchange of experience and the establishment of local networks. These meetings are aimed at the managers of the local branches of the member companies. The focus is on information and exchange on relevant topics directly related to successful business activities in the People’s Republic of China.
The meeting is always hosted by a member company. To enrich the exchange, the textile machinery meeting was hold together with companies from other machinery sectors during the last years, e.g. power transmission engineering.
Trade Shows in China
Since 2008, a combined show known as “ITMA ASIA + CITME” has been held in China, scheduled to take place every two years. It is Asia’s major fair for textile machinery. Taking off in Shanghai, the milestone event features the unique strengths of the ITMA brand and China's most important textile event -CITME. This move to combine the two shows into one mega high-quality event is strongly supported by all nine CEMATEX European textile machinery associations, CTMA (China Textile Machinery Association) and JTMA (Japan Textile Machinery Association). The seventh edition of the combined show will be held from 15to 19 October 2020 at the new National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai.
